Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi beats the South Korean smartphone giant Samsung in the fourth quarter of October-November-December of the year 2017 to emerge as the number one in the Indian smartphone market.
Now, according to a new report by CyberMedia Research, the state of Maharashtra played a major role in Xiaomi’s rise to the top position.
The report also terms Maharashtra as the biggest smartphone market in India.
According to the CMR report, during the quarter, Xiaomi outshined Samsung in selling smartphones in Maharashtra which alone amounted to 13.7% of the sales.
Overall, Xiaomi sold 31.2% of smartphones during the period vis-a-vis Samsung selling 15.3% smartphones.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone dominated the company’s sales in the state.
As per the findings of the report, Xiaomi’s sales can be attributed to the two new Mi Home retail stores that the company opened in the state in October and November 2017.
As for the other shareholders, Vivo, Oppo and Lenovo follow in the rankings in the same order. Together the top five, accounted for over 84% of the total smartphone sales in India.
